Within five minutes drive from Rosendal - The Neighbours in our Valley

Be picked up on our doorstep for a Game Drive at the Klaasvoogds Game Reserve, a 2 hour Game Drive where you will get close to the reintroduced African animals of Klaasvoogds.

Go for lunch at the five star restaurant at Fraai Uitzicht that are famous for composing some of the most fantastic food just around the corner of Rosendal.

Before your reach Fraai Uitzicht, stop at Kranskop Winery, a very nice private wine cellar making some great Shiraz. Buy a double magnum for your wine cellar before leaving.

In the famous Soekershof (Private Mazes & Botanical Gardens in SA) there are more than 2400 different registered species and varieties of succulents, cacti included - all in the unprotected open air. More than 900 of these succulents originate from Southern Africa. In addition to the most fantastic collection of cactus it is also hosting the world’s largest hedge maze. Soekershof is only 30 minutes walking distance from Rosendal and is well worth a stop to admire the beauty, purchase a cactus and have a cup to tea. It is open Wednesday - Sunday 8h00 to 16h00, otherwise on appointment only. Also recommended to visit is Maze Quest and/or Interactive Exploration in succulent gardens with its largest outdoor collection in the world: during opening days at 11h00 sharp (otherwise on appointment only)

Half way to Soekershof you can stop at the Rusticus wine cellar. They make wine based on vintage principles and go all the way. A very interesting cellar tour is on offer here.

When crossing "the border" of upper Klaasvoogds and the R60 to the lower part of Klaasvoogds you must prepare for the most stunning drive. Beautiful vineyards with flowers on the side, just interrupted of old Cape Dutch farm houses.

Rietvallei Wine Estate is an original Cape Dutch wine farm in all aspects. It's been owned by the same family in six generations, it produces some of the best Muscadel in the area, and it offers great value for money served with pride by nice hostesses.

Stop at Bon Courage for some memorable wines and why not a lunch under the magnificent pepper tree. At Cafe Maude you can enjoy a delicious meal with exquisite wine - under the shade of an old African pepper tree or next to the big fireplace should there be a chill in the air on a winter morning.

Further down the road you will reach the wine cellar of Viljoensdrift. Their wine has reached world class in less than 10 years and represents a great success story for the Robertson Valley. They also operate a beautiful cruise along the Breede River, stock up with wine and food from the charming "harbour stall" and get going. PS! Does not operate every day, enquire first.

From 1st November 2009 every Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning between 11h00 and 13h00, The Olive Garden Country Lodge opens for olive tasting and tells you all about Olive trees, olives, soil, oil, healthy benefits of the olive. Program: Olive tour in the orchards - professional olive tasting between 3 different olive oils and given by recognised olive tasters. The whole olive tour will take 45 to 60 minutes. Tour groups can enquire for other days than mentioned above. Please note booking is essential!

Within 10 minutes drive from Rosendal

Kolgans River Restaurant offers Afrikaans cooking, 3 to 4 course meals, while you cruise the Breede River in Robertson. Daily cruises - Brunch - Lunch - Sundowners and Dinner. Burcon Stables and Trails. Horse riding on a real Boereplaas. Trails through nature reserve - river bank - vineyards and wineries.

Birds Paradise is an absolute must for kids and animal lovers. With more than a hundred species such as Macaws, Hyacins, Conures, Pelicans and lots of waterfowl it is truly an unforgettable experience. Birds from Australia to Peru, Central America to Africa and Asia to Northern Wales all made Birds Paradise their home. It Features a great play ground and child friendly restaurant.

Horse riding in the mountains of Robertson can be a great way to spend a morning or an afternoon.

Galleries in and around Robertson include Parmos Art Café, the new Robertson Art Gallery that display local art, the Kamakoo, the local Country Pottery as well as our local Glass blaster Mr D Johnson.

Robertson Museum is the house in Paul Kruger Street was built in 1860. The English family owned Druids Lodge from 1883. Mr. English’s widow lived in the house until her death in 1924. Violet English, the last surviving member of the family, lived here till she died in 1976.Druids Lodge was declared a National Monument in 1977.

The Dharma Centre in Robertson is the only full-time residential Zen centre in Africa. They offer a daily practice schedule with teaching support. In addition they conduct monthly retreats varying in length. The centre is operated by Rodney and Heila Downey.

Around Robertson there is great opportunity for River Fishing and Swimming in the Breede River. Rivers Canoe Adventures offers a 15 km or a 30 km memorable guided canoe trips on the Breede River.

Within 20 minutes drive from Rosendal

Tradouw Quads offers a range of different tours with qualified guides. A tour can take everything from one to five hours and vary from novice to experienced bikers; a great location for a motor adventure with a great nature experience.

Rafting Route 62 has opened up an exciting new section of river in the heart of the Breede river valley. This section has never been run commercially before. The trip is about 9km long and winds its way down, passing some of the nicest wine estates in the valley.

The bird life is incredible, in quantity and variety, and there is always the chance of spotting the elusive otter. Watch the Fish Eagles soar against the majestic Langeberg Mountains; the Kingfishers hover above the water before diving in for a meal or the friendly African Darters open their wings as you float pass them.

The river is gentle enough for first timers, with enough small rapids to make it exciting. This is an unforgettable experience for the whole family. So if you have driven the scenic Route 62 and enjoyed it, then why don't you try and paddle it.

Zevenfontein Mountain Biking offers both guided tours and self hire in a great biking area. There is also a good opportunity to bring your own bike, and go for rides around Rosendal in the beautiful Klaasvoogds Valley.

Robertson Walkabout is are two walks around town, mostly passing by interesting building styles, like the Victorian villa built during the Ostrich feather boom and other historical buildings
